Linen care instructions
As with all quality products, they need to be treated well. The more you wash or use linen, the softer it will become. Knowing how to care for your clothing or textiles is a big principle of creating a wardrobe which will last for many years.
Washing Linen Clothes
Linen clothes are machine washable. Use the gentle cycle on your washing machine and wash with similar lightweight fabrics.
Wash your linen clothes at, or below, 40°C (104°F). Hot water can cause linen to shrink.
Linen can also be handwashed, but ensure to handle gently and avoid twisting, pulling and scrubbing as this can damage the fibres.
Avoid fabric softener - linen will soften on its own over time.
Do not use bleach as this will damage the fabric.
Drying Linen Clothes
Once washed, linen items should be hung on a drying rack or padded hanger, or preferably dried flat to lower the chances of creases. Avoid using clothes pegs, as they can cause marks on the garment.
Tumble drying is not preferable for linen clothing as it will shorten the lifespan of your item. However, if a tumble dryer is used, always dry your linens at cool temperatures. High heat can cause shrinkage of the material and can become stiff.
Linen should be stored in a cool, dry area and linen clothes should be hung, rather than folded, in order to retain its shape and minimise creases.
